Back in 2001 I started experimenting with makeup. I was in Aesthetics School, 19 years old and up until then my encounters with makeup had been minimal. Although, now that I look back, I remember my first time at a MAC Cosmetics counter, in Chicago IL. I was 15 years old then and there was no MAC counter back home, in Cleveland, at the time. I had never seen anything like it! To say that I was impressed would be an understatement of epic proportions. I left the counter that day with 2 Icon lipsticks (I loved that shade!) and a seed that I had no idea would continue to grow inside of me until this very day.
After obtaining my Aesthetics License, I started to train at a local spa to transition from a manicurist to an aesthetician. I only did makeup on the weekends as a hobby at this point. If I had known then, that you can be successful at whatever your passion is I would have saved myself a lot of time! Anyway, after years of working in spas, salons and even trying my hand as a salon owner I took a stab in the dark, at the recommendation of a friend, and applied for a part time Artist position at MAC Cosmetics. I had hoped hard to get the job, but never believed I was good enough even though I was doing makeup just based off of word of mouth. As you have probably gathered I did get the job and I was ecstatic-overjoyed really! I learned so much about products and techniques but, most of all, I found my confidence and my voice in makeup!
Some years later, I took a position at a hospital working as an Aesthetic Specialist to better accommodate my changing circumstances ( my son was starting school and I needed a more stable schedule). I was sad to be leaving the MAC world but little did I know how that this would further develop my artistry. This position taught me, and continues to teach me, so much about the foundation of any beautiful makeup application-the skin. I can never stop learning about the skin and makeup-information about both is never ending and I am thirsty to learn. Two and a half years into my roll as an Aesthetic Specialist I decided to greatly reduce my skin care schedule to concentrate on making my side gig, makeup, into much more. It has been 10 months since I have dived into Cleveland Bridal Makeup and I have been so fortunate to be busy with what I love! Happily, I have had the help of some truly awesome folks along the way, especially for the non-makeup related items that you have to think of as a business owner. This journey is exciting, frightening, exhilirating and intimidating all at the same time-BUT I LOVE IT! I am so excited for the road ahead! I will continue to share my updates through this blog-the good, the bad and the ugly but hopefully mostly the good!
